Ms Sekai reflects on the challenges experienced when in 2017 she commenced teaching and living at Hwata Secondary. She then explores how recent improvements to infrastructure and teaching equipment facilitated by NoBarriers have made life easier for teachers and students alike.

Ms Maweto describes from her perspective as teacher and farmer how the wide-ranging drought in Zimbabwe affects communities in the Muzarabani District: that the cognitive abilities of students are at risk because food is scarce and insufficient in nutrition. She explains the importance of the daily school meals, as it is often the only meal her students have all day.

Ms Matavire reflects on the challenges of teaching ICT at a rural high school, which struggled until recently with long periods of power outages, poor internet connection and totally outdated computing equipment. Since the installation of a solar system, improved internet connectivity and the provision of new generation computing equipment teaching and learning at Muzarabani High has been transformed

Prescilla tells her family’s story and how a combination of circumstances (domestic violence, pandemic) forced her to move into her school’s informal boarding house. The daily school meals and supplies donated by teachers and relatives sustain her while NoBarriers’ school fee support enables her to attend classes and sit examinations.

Tinotenda M

Muzarabani High

Tinotenda’s story is told by his Math Teacher, who reflects how through sheer determination he has proceeded to Senior High. He lives with his grandparents, who try their best, but can’t afford schools fees or learning materials. He wants to study math at university, but without financial support its likelihood is very slim.

Through my camera lens, I witnessed not only physical changes in infrastructure but also the impact these changes have had on learners, teachers as well as the broader community

IT Training Scholarship

Four young women school leavers from Muzarabani District commenced in Feb 26 a 12-month long, intensive IT training in Harare, which could change their lives through the employment opportunities it opens up. This training is provided through a joint scholarship by Uncommon and NoBarriers generously funding by Eminent Homes
